Living in the woods

It’s been about a year and a half since I bought a house in the woods. It’s not exactly isolated like Thoreau’s cabin on Walden Pond, but it is in the woods nonetheless. Every once in a while a scene catches my eye and I need to grab a photo of it, even with my iPhone.

If it doesn’t include a bird in the photo, I typically do not post it to this site. With this photo I will start posting them more often. Otherwise the photos never see the light of day. The woods are just too cool not to share.

Below is the color version. Which one do you like better?

  1. Chris,
While a fan of b/w I prefer the color shot. The yellow offsets the snow and trees. The black and white shot needs the contrast improved.

Keep up the good work. Imagine if a sharpie or coopers has been perched on the handle. Now, that would have been a shot :-).

    • Hi Rich. Funny you should mention the contrast in the b/w. I just took the photo and uploaded it from my iPhone. I thought the same thing about the contrast when I saw how it showed up on the web. Thanks Rich. Happy holidays!

  2. Hi Chris — I have to put in my two cents worth to disagree with Rich. I much prefer the black-&-white photo. In fact it has an old-timey, almost Thoreauvian quality!
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas — & a good Christmas Count!
